Stabilize & Retain
After Day 1, the new organization needs to spend a period of time focused on stabilizing the new organization and retaining key resources. During this phase is not the time to cut back on support resources or to launch major new initiatives.
Depending on the industry and type of merger, IT resources may be focused on assisting with customer support, supplier integration or other integration activities. The TPO should be kept in place and regular meetings with work stream leads should be continued.
The TPO should recognize that during the Stabilize & Retain phase some employees will actually work more than during the Pre-Day 1 phase. The TPO should have a plan to motivate and assist the key resources during this critical phase.
